Can you help us make Manor Lane blossom?
We are a group of neighbours who are keen to make our street greener. We are raising funds to replace two dead trees at the Lochaber Hall end of Manor Lane in Lewisham.
How much do they cost?
Each tree is £395 which covers the cost of the tree and digging the pit and planting etc. We are initially raising money to replace two trees, but in the future, we'd love to plant more.
What is the process for planting the trees?
We are working with Street Trees for Living, the charity responsible for organising new trees in Lewisham. They have surveyed the sites, along with Lewisham Council, and we have been given permission for two dead trees to be replaced outside no 30 and 45 Manor Lane. The trees will be ordered over the summer in time for pit digging and planting from October.
Who cares for the trees once they are planted?
Local residents volunteer to care for the trees, watering them each week between March - October.
Why plant street trees?
Street trees provide us with a small way of connecting to nature in our day to day lives, as citizens living in a busy, built up city. As well as being good for biodiversity and wildlife, studies have shown they have a positive effect on people’s wellbeing and help make the place we call home an altogether happier, healthier and more pleasant place to be.
Street trees can…
- Green and cool our streets
- Clean the air we breathe
- Bring neighbours together to raise money and share in tree care
- Leave a legacy for the future for our streets, local neighbourhoods and the wider city
- Contribute to reducing our carbon footprint
- Bring birds, bees and other wildlife to our streets
We know that money is tight for many people right now and we are very grateful for any donations. If you are unable to donate but would like to support us in other ways feel free to message us.
