Mano Kailikea and his mom have always called Waialua home, but last Friday morning changed everything. Mano woke up alone to his dogs barking and discovered knee-deep water flooding their already raised house on Haona Street. With little time to react, he managed to save only his two dogs and kitten. His neighbors, who had an infant baby, were also caught off guard by the sudden flood. As they considered climbing a fence to reach higher ground, a caring neighbor, Brandon Rice, arrived in his truck to help evacuate anyone in need. Mano and his pets made it safely to a nearby shelter, thanks to the kindness of their community.
Even after reaching safety, Mano’s concern for others didn’t stop—he left his pets with a friend at the shelter and went back out that night to help with search and rescue efforts. Unfortunately, the flood destroyed everything Mano and his mom owned. Like many in their neighborhood, they have no flood insurance and are now faced with the daunting task of rebuilding their lives from scratch.
The funds raised will help Mano and his mom rebuild their home, secure temporary housing, and cover day-to-day living expenses while they are unable to work for the next month. Any help is appreciated, and sharing this fundraiser is just as helpful as donating. Your support will make a real difference as Mano and his mom work to recover and start over.
