UPDATE 11/24/2025: It is with a broken heart that I provide this update: This evening At Tufts Vets @ Walpole the internist broke the news that Manny has a highly likely brain lymphoma. After talking through the treatment plan, which was incredibly invasive, intricate and expensive, we all agreed to put my sweet boy on out patient hospice and went home with comfort medications. A co-worker provided me with an excellent provider who we are waiting to hear back from. The internist estimated Manny will only live 3-7 days and does not believe surgical intervention is what is best at this time. Unfortunately cancer does not pick an age and as young as he is, this is what we are dealing with. Now we will give him lots of love and snuggles and make sure he is comfortable. Thank you everyone who donated out of the kindness of your heart-whether it was due to your love for animals, myself and my kids or just generosity-you made me cry tears of hope and made me feel less alone during this difficult time❤️
Manny turned 3 on 10/10/2025. On 11/07/2025, Manny appeared to be unwell, and I made a vet appointment. I thought he had a urinary tract infection (UTI) since we noticed he was suddenly incontinent in the house (unable to hold his bladder) and was very thirsty. The veterinarian drew labs, collected the urine and fecal sample, and suggested we hold off on the vaccinations he was due for in case he had a UTI. The next day, I noticed Manny developed tremors and continued with the incontinence and increased thirst. I took a video and sent it to the vet.
We were called back in to discuss the labs. His calcium was high at 14.7, phosphorus extremely low, and his kidney lab was 0.8 over the high normal limit, indicating something serious was going on and it was beginning to affect his kidney function.
They were able to rule out UTI, Addison's Disease, Parasitic Illness, Tick-Borne Illness, and the fecal sample was negative. We have ruled out GI blockage or toxicity due to rodenticide or pesticides. The vet suggested that since Manny is a Boxer and Boxers are special (meaning they can have some funky/rare stuff happen medically), we get an ionized calcium test.
It has come down to either a hyper-parathyroid tumor, which could be malignant, or a type of lymphoma or multiple myeloma (cancer).
We are completely shocked by this news since he just turned 3 and was healthy and happy less than a month ago.
While we wait for the ionized calcium results, he declines rapidly. Just 2 weeks ago, he was still eating, playing, enjoying walks, and snuggles. Over the last 3 days, he has stopped eating, has increased tremors, altered mental status, and weakness that is causing difficulty walking, and his hind legs give out. He has become more agitated with Yuki, who just wants her best friend to play with. She hasn't left his side despite his personality change.
We have already surpassed our ability to manage his care at this point with $3,000 already spent and maxing out our Care Credit Card. ASPCA health insurance only reimburses after the out-of-pocket expense and only a percentage if eligible based on our plan.
We are hoping to raise money to help get him into an ER—he will need an inpatient stay to closely monitor his fluid and electrolyte balance, monitor vitals, and receive medications like steroids and anti-seizure medications.
Each day that passes by risks irreversible damage to his heart and kidney, and he already has a classic Boxer heart murmur.
He is only 3, and my boys are devastated. Yuki will be lost without him. We have enough money for 1 overnight in the ER, but he needs at least a week, and then we can discuss the results of his labs, which will be either surgical removal of a tumor or potential radiation.
I can't surrender him knowing that he could get put down. I offered to surrender him to MSPCA if it would fast-track his medical treatment and give him the best chance at life (he is still a baby in Boxer years), but the MSPCA does not recommend surrendering him through in-patient stays.
If I don't control his lab values, he will continue to suffer, and we have exhausted all funds. I can't fathom the thought of humanely euthanizing him at such a young age without first trying everything to help him—which is why I turned to GoFundMe.
Any dollar amount helps.
We have $1,625 for the upcoming ultrasounds, additional labs, and hopefully 1 night in the ER with fluid therapy and hourly monitoring. Please consider donating to Manny to save his life and keep my young kids from having to see their sweet boy put down before the holidays. <3
