My name is Manuel (Manny) Garcia, and I am reaching out for help to keep my family—my son Caleb and our six dogs—together in our home. Three years ago, I lost my job when my department was closed and moved overseas. Since then, I have struggled to find steady work, managing only 13 months of employment out of the last 31. I have taken on project work, managed restaurants, worked as a server, and even taken a job as a dishwasher at a local Mexican restaurant. Despite my college degree and experience, I have not been able to secure a stable position, especially in remote call centers, which I have applied to at every level. The opportunities I had with Google contractors have also dried up, making things even more difficult.
Our family includes six dogs: Achilles and Echo, who have always been ours; Nala and Maya, who came to us temporarily three years ago due to a domestic violence situation; Chloë, who joined us earlier this year for the same reason; and Ella Bella, who is a foster. Through the group I foster with, I may be able to get all our dogs rehomed, but the thought of saying goodbye is incredibly hard emotionally.
Because of these challenges, we have fallen far behind on our mortgage. The bank has now called in the loan, and we are facing foreclosure with very little time left to come up with the funds needed to save our home. My son Caleb has serious medical complications and depends on specialized equipment and monthly supplies, including a ceiling lift and hospital bed that were built on-site and cannot be moved in our old minivan. He also relies on feeding bags, Farrell bags, food, ventilator equipment, diapers, chucks, wipes, and more. Moving Caleb and all his equipment is a tall order, and we have nowhere else to go. My parents are in Florida and facing their own health challenges, so they cannot help. Our home is not just a roof over our heads—it is a safe space where Caleb can get the care he needs, and where our dogs are part of our family.
We are making a last-ditch effort to stay together and keep our home. I am deeply grateful for any support you can offer, whether it is through a donation or by sharing our story with others who might be able to help. Your kindness can make all the difference for us in this critical moment.
