Help Manhole Sketch Comedy

Hello! We are Manhole Sketch Comedy and for over a decade we have been the only sketch comedy group on the UW- Madison campus. Every semester we stage two shows at The Play Circle Theatre in Memorial Union where we perform around a dozen original comedic sketches written by the members of our troupe. Thanks in large part to the generous funds made available to the group via the university's Late Night Grant, Manhole has been able to make every one of our shows completely free.

This year, however, due to unexpected administrative changes to the Late Night Grant, Manhole Sketch Comedy has and will only receive $1,000 from the University of Wisconsin- Madison for the entire academic year. Memorial Union charges have increased to cost $550 to host a single event in The Play Circle. As such, virtually the entirety of the money given to Manhole by the university was expended staging two shows during the fall semester.

We remain committed to staging two more shows this semester, and to doing so with the same level of quality and professionalism our audiences have grown accustomed to over the years. We also refuse to compromise our belief that our shows should always be made freely available to all and thus will not be charging admission to any of our shows.

That being said, the inescapable reality is that Manhole Sketch Comedy needs to raise money if we are to continue staging our productions at The Play Circle. We are actively exploring fundraising opportunities with local businesses, but we will be able to afford to stage our shows based on these opportunities.

We need your help. Over the years, thousands of people have sat in the audience of Manhole shows.
