Hi everyone, we are Ellie and Ben. On September 22nd, our world turned upside down when our sweet 4.5-year-old dog, Mango, suddenly lost the use of his back legs.
We rushed him straight to the vet, where he was diagnosed with Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD). Mango had suffered a popped disc, and material had spread across his spinal cord, causing severe compression that required immediate, major surgery to save him.
Thanks to the incredible veterinary team, our resilient boy made it through the surgery and is currently recovering in the hospital. However, IVDD is a lifelong condition, and the road ahead is uncertain.
At best, IVDD causes immense pain; at worst, it can lead to permanent paralysis and incontinence. While we are praying for the best, we must prepare for Mango's new reality.
He will require specialised, lifelong care to give him the best quality of life possible.
To support his recovery and comfort, Mango is going to need a lot of specialised equipment and therapy, including:
Hydrotherapy sessions to rebuild his strength.
A specialised spine-supportive harness and lead.
Orthopaedic bedding and sofa steps to protect his back at home.
Mobility aids like a walking sling, nappies, and potentially a set of wheels or a doggy pram.
How You Can Help:
Even with pet insurance, the costs have added up quickly. As a family, we have spent £4,500 on his emergency surgery, initial aftercare, and medication.
We want to give our boy every single chance at a happy, pain-free life, and we are not ashamed to admit that we need a little help to get him the equipment and ongoing care he desperately needs.
If you are in a position to donate-no matter how small-or even just share Mango’s story, it would mean the absolute world to us, and more importantly, to Mango.
Thank you so much for reading and for supporting our brave little guy.
