Hello! We are first grade teachers in Denver Public Schools. Our sweet class cockatiel, Mango Pikachu, needs your help. Something happened to him last week and we're not sure how he was injured. On Friday, we noticed his wing was swollen and lopsided and he was not his happy bird-self. One of our first grade families took him to the emergency vet, and we learned that Mango has a broken wing.

Mango has been such a special part of our classroom for years — greeting our young students each morning with cheerful chirps, “talking” and singing with us, and bringing smiles to everyone’s faces. The kids adore him, and we’re all heartbroken that he’s hurt.

The emergency vet visit and treatment is already around $2,000, which included X-rays, resetting his wing, an overnight stay at the pet hospital, antibiotics, pain medication, and does not include 4–6 weeks of rehab or a temporary enclosure for Mango so he doesn't hurt himself. A kind family from our school community took him to the vet, paid the bill, and is caring for him at home while he heals. We need to reimburse this wonderful family for the vet expenses and ongoing care until Mango is ready to return to class.
