Help Save Mango

Mango is a 6-month-old mini golden doodle who has completely changed my aunt and her kids lives. From the moment they brought him home, he has been the sweetest, most loving little soul.

He loves car rides, going for walks, tagging along to work with my aunt, and visiting family. He isn’t just a dog — he’s family. He has captured not only their hearts, but all of ours. For my aunts kids especially, he’s their best friend.

A few months ago, we noticed a small lump on his side. As time went on, it continued to grow. On Valentine’s Day, my aunt took Mango in for X-rays, hoping for simple answers. Instead, she was told he has a mass on his 10th rib that has been there since birth and has progressively gotten larger.

Right now, the vets don’t know if the mass is malignant or benign. To find out, Mango needs a biopsy that costs $3,000. No matter the results, the mass must be surgically removed to prevent it from affecting his quality of life or potentially becoming cancerous. The surgery is estimated to cost upwards of $7,000.

What makes this even more overwhelming is that this diagnosis comes after an already incredibly difficult year.

My aunt has been going through a tough divorce — one that has been emotionally exhausting and financially draining. In September, her brother went into cardiac arrest and was without oxygen for 20–30 minutes.

As if that wasn’t enough, her son was diagnosed with Gilbert’s disease. For any parent, hearing that something is wrong with your child is terrifying. 

On top of all of that, she has put a significant amount of money into repairs for her truck this year, only for it to continue having never-ending issues.

It has truly been one thing after another. Financially and emotionally, this year has pushed her to her limits.

And now, Mango — their source of comfort and light through all of it — needs help.

Hearing words like “mass,” “biopsy,” and “surgery” about a puppy who hasn’t even lived a full year is heartbreaking. Mango deserves the chance to grow up, to keep bringing joy into their home, and to live the long, healthy life he was meant to have.
