In September 2025, Mandye contracted COVID-19, which triggered a rare and devastating autoimmune disorder called Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS).
On December 9, 2025, her world was turned upside down when she suddenly lost the ability to walk.
Before her hospitalization, Mandye used much of her available sick/vacation time. She then spent a significant amount of time in the ICU and is now in a skilled rehabilitation center, working every day to relearn how to walk and rebuild strength as her damaged nerves slowly attempt to heal. Recovery from GBS is a long and uncertain journey, requiring immense physical and emotional strength—something Mandye continues to show every single day.
This medical crisis has taken a heavy toll on the entire family. Mandye has been unable to work, and her devoted husband, Ron, has missed a considerable amount of work to care for her and be by her side. While Ron’s employer has been incredibly understanding, the financial burden of prolonged illness and hospitalization is overwhelming. Between medical copays, out-of-pocket expenses, lost wages, and ongoing care costs, their savings are quickly being depleted—and this is only the beginning.
In addition to medical bills, Mandye will need essential items such as a wheelchair, braces, specialized shoes, and significant home modifications to safely move around and continue her recovery. Unfortunately, many of these necessary expenses are not covered by insurance.
Mandye and her family understand that times are hard for many, and that this happening just before Christmas makes it even more challenging. Still, if you are able to help in any way, it would mean more than words can express. Any donation—no matter the size—will go directly toward helping Mandye heal and easing the immense financial strain on her family. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser is just as meaningful and deeply appreciated.
Thank you for taking the time to read Mandye’s story and for showing compassion, generosity, and support during one of the most difficult moments of her life. Every act of kindness truly makes a difference.
