HELP MANDY WALK AGAIN!

Donation protected
Howdy Friends!

Before I wax poetic about the trials and tribulations Amanda has gone through since her accident, the financial toll treatment is going to take, and the immeasurable burden of living handicapped with little to no assistance for over 10 years- I wanted to highlight how important community is at a time like this.  Amanda always shows up for her community- it's our turn to show up for her.

Amanda will come to support your shows using a cane, actively limping. She has lost the ability to go hiking, dance competitively (an activity she staunchly pursued before the accident) and engage in walks longer than 5 minutes without being in excruciating pain. Yet- she's in the crowd, supporting her musician homies. No questions asked.

Amanda, just as broke as the rest of us, financially supports the arts by not complaining about $10 at the door, buying band shirts, records and tapes.  No questions asked.

Amanda will drive your drunk ass home at 2am while you're throwing up blue gatorade all over the outside of her car (sorry, babe). No questions asked.

Amanda will take a flight across the country to see you elope in Vegas last minute, graduate from school or help you move (despite injury). No questions asked.

Amanda will bring you cheesecake after you've been dumped, naturally assume the role as Aunty around your babies, and will genuinely care about your pet for more than 15 minutes. Not for selfies or self-righteousness, but because she cares about her community.

I'll detail below the exact work that Amanda is getting done, and the details of her accident (which is a wild story, and even if you don't plan on donating, at least read the story & share the GoFundMe!)

Please, do for Amanda what she's been doing for y'all for years! Donate to help Amanda walk pain-free again!

The Accident

On a beach camping trip in Southern California, situated tightly between the US and Mexico border, Amanda's life would radically change as she'd known it.

The group decided to set up near a cliff overlooking a wild and choppy Pacific, a surfer's paradise. After a night of typical camping "shenanigans"  and Amanda wrangling her disorderly friends, as she often does- Amanda decides to leave her tent to find a restroom. Surrounded by complete darkness and the sound of distant waves to act as a general compass, in a sleepy stupor she finds herself at the edge of the cliff.

Unable to keep her balance, Amanda goes careening down a 30- foot cliff onto a bed of jagged sea rocks.  Regaining consciousness after the fall, Amanda's body begins to respond to the trauma with intense pain.  Assessing the damage, she attempts to lift her leg,- only to see that her right foot is hanging onto her leg by only thin pieces of muscle and skin and her other ankle is badly broken as well. Amanda's right foot was almost completely detached from her body. The scene was a bloodbath.

At this point it's nearing 5 am, and her friends aren't responding to her cries for help and most likely won't be waking up until well into the afternoon. The situation was no longer dangerous, it was nearing fatal.

However, of all the places in the world to camp, the group decided to stay near the roaring waves of the Pacific Ocean- as stated above, a surfer's paradise. Just as Amanda was about to give up hope- I shit you not- a  group of French surfers (who, uh, rumor has it were BUILT), come running down the beach a la Baywatch.  Pressed with urgency, they run Amanda back around the cliff to her camping spot, laying atop their surfboard.

Her friends attempt to make sense of what happened while also reckoning with monstrous hangovers- they begin the 3 hour drive to a US hospital. Once admitted, the doctors rush to attach Amanda's foot back to her leg. According to the practitioners, if she had arrived to the hospital any later, surgery would have been impossible.

Flash forward 10 years, Amanda's foot is attached to her leg (you may have noticed). She's lucky to have her foot! However, she's saddled with insurmountable medical debt and perhaps most paramount- she may have her foot, but she can barely use it. She recently had a second surgery to ease some pain and gain more movement and has had cortisone shots as well as physical therapy- all to no avail. At this point, there are no surgeries, procedures, or therapies to increase range of motion or lessen pain. Further surgery is bound to add to the already existing scar tissue, therefore lessening range of motion.

Amanda was an avid dancer before the accident. Unfortunately, she can no longer pursue dance in any capacity. Spending a majority of her life in the Northwest, she has a natural penchant for hiking, outdoorsmanship and backpacking. She cannot pursue these activities with the current state of her ankle. An active woman at heart, biking, swimming and even taking long walks with friends are no longer options for Amanda anymore. Further, Amanda is almost fully disabled at this time. She is barely able to walk for more than a few minutes and completely unable to carry anything of substantial weight, as the pain is far too great. Some days Amanda is completely unable to walk at all.

That is why we are starting this fundraiser- finally, there is a medical option that will help Amanda walk, dance, hike, etc. again! Below is information on the medical procedure/bionic ligament Amanda needs to be able to freely move again, without pain. I bet if she meets the goal of the fundraiser she'll Soulja Boy  for you.

Help Amanda, a rad and important member of the community, friend and sister live without chronic pain!!!

The "Procedure" or Prosthetic

Designed for patients dealing with chronic pain due to nerve injuries in the leg, the Limb Salvage Leg Brace  will help Amanda run, swim, hike, dance- but perhaps most amazingly and imperatively- walk successfully to the grocery store without being in immobilizing pain for days afterwards.
