From Emma, Mandy’s cousin:

 The past 11 years have been a long road for Mandy to say the least. First diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, she quickly lost the ability to walk on her own completely losing all sensation from the waist down. Her 5-7 seizures a day became the norm, and being in and out of doctors offices is now like second nature. Eight months into her diagnosis she discovered she also had neurological Lupus, Anti-phospholipid syndrome, and Hashimoto’s disease. 

 Throughout the years she’s tried her best to manage all of her ailments by herself but this year in particular has been extra challenging. Due to her persistent seizures she was in a coma on two separate occasions. 

 With no health insurance, and the inability of her to work, it has become extremely difficult for Mandy to cover all these expenses herself. She’s had to sell her car, her apartment, her motorcycle, and lost all of her jobs as an architect, designer, and project manager. Shes tried the best she can to carry this financial load on her own, but the savings she had from selling her assets has quickly run out and the funds simply aren’t there any longer. 

 Life has gone to a weird place, and she is being drowned by medical debt. For context some of her ongoing health expenses include: endless doctor's visits, medications, (including chemotherapy), bloodwork, a very strict diet, and a home health aide to help with activities of daily living (ambulating, etc) as well as cognitive, psychological, physical, conduct, and psychiatric therapy. She needs all the help she can get! 

 Despite all of the challenges, Mandy has always had resilience, courage, and this fire for living life, she is truly a fighter! PLEASE help me help my cousin. Now is the moment to show her hope and light again in the midst of her hopelessness & sorrow.

¡Hola! Soy Emma. Quiero ayudar a mi prima Mandy a tener la mejor vida posible después de su segundo coma.

Ha pasado por mucho en estos 11 años. Primero le diagnosticaron esclerosis múltiple, no podía caminar, perdió movilidad de cintura para abajo, tenía de 5 a 7 convulsiones al día y entraba y salía de clínicas y consultorios médicos. Después de 8 meses, le diagnosticaron lupus neurológico, síndrome antifosfolípido y tiroiditis de Hashimoto. Estaba devastada, ¡pero resurge de las cenizas con más fuerza que un ave fénix!

Este último año ha sido una pesadilla interminable. Ambos comas fueron inducidos por convulsiones cerebrales, y los médicos no pudieron hacer nada más.

Después de ambos comas, ha estado intentando recuperarse, pero el dinero no ha sido suficiente. Intentó por sí misma lo que pudo.

Hace apenas unas semanas, Mandy vendió su auto, su departamento, su motocicleta y perdió todos sus trabajos. Es arquitecta, diseñadora y directora de proyectos. Su vida se ha vuelto un caos y está abrumada por deudas médicas, terapias (cognitivas, psicológicas, físicas, conductuales, psiquiátricas y otras), chequeos médicos, medicamentos, quimioterapia, estudios, comida saludable y personas que puedan ayudarla en su día a día... ¡Necesita nuestra ayuda!

Mandy siempre ha tenido resiliencia, valentía y una pasión por vivir, y lucha contra todo.

Ahora mismo está muy triste, con poca energía por la medicación y no mejora como debería porque no puede pagarla. Mandy tiene un propósito en la vida; ella brilla a su manera.
