For the past two weeks, Mandy has been suffering from an invasive fungal infection. Though she went to local hospitals in Michigan several times, doctors persistently downplayed the severity of her condition, even as it deteriorated by the day and led to her losing sixty pounds over only two months. It came to a head on the 19th, when a doctor tried to tell her that the type of infection she has doesn't exist. At this point, I genuinely feared she would go septic, or worse, and made last minute arrangements for her to come to Baltimore for proper medical treatment.
Three days of IV antibiotics and antifungals later, having been diagnosed with five infections caused by both bacteria and fungi, she's feeling much better, and has decided to move to Baltimore permanently to ensure she doesn't end up with more medical issues ignored. Unfortunately, we're both on disability, and constant Lyfts to emergency rooms have severely bled our finances. The cost of getting her here on such an urgent basis is already putting a strain on us, and now we also have to look at getting more of her belongings and three cats (including a therapist prescribed emotional support animal) to Baltimore.
Donations are intended first and foremost to cover moving expenses, including transportation for her three cats, costs of medication and any hospital bills not covered by her insurance, and shipping costs for what she couldn't carry with her (as her emergency doctors have prohibited her from interstate travel for her own health). Anything left over would go into paying transportation debts related to medical care and buying new clothes to accommodate her dramatic weight loss.
