My name is Mandie, and right now my family and I are facing one of the toughest times of our lives. I am currently in the hospital with MRSA, and my doctors have told me I won’t be able to work for the next 6 to 8 weeks. My husband is caring for our three daughters—ages one, six, and ten—while I recover, and because our youngest needs full-time care, he’s unable to work as well. Our two older girls are in school, but with everything going on, daily life has become a real challenge.
We don’t have a permanent home at the moment and are staying with my husband’s parents. They’ve been so generous, but we’ll need to move out in June when I’m discharged from the hospital. Our family’s savings have run out, and my husband recently had to dip into his 401(k) just to cover basic expenses for the girls and himself. That money is almost gone, and we’re worried about how we’ll manage the costs of moving, transportation, and daily essentials. Between driving the girls to school 30 minutes away, getting to therapy sessions for my daughters and husband three times a week, and making the hour-long trip for my family to visit me, gas alone is a huge expense. We also have car insurance, phone bills, and the everyday costs of food, diapers, and even cat litter for our two Siamese cats. Another important expense is our storage unit, which we need to pay for monthly to avoid losing our belongings. Some days, it’s hard to afford even the basics like diapers.
I’ve always been someone who loves to give and never expected anything in return. But now, I’m humbly asking for empathy, love, and kindness from our community. I know life is hard for everyone, and I’m not asking for much, but I believe in the miracles that can happen when people come together.
