Help Mandi Recover and Get Back to Work

Mandi has been through a lot recently! She was recently in a bad car accident which happened while she was dealing with other health and family issues.

In June of 2024, Mandi started having pain in her right arm and wrist. She couldn't hold anything heavy in her right hand and couldn't close her fingers all the way. She also couldn't put much pressure on her right wrist. This meant she was not able to do some of the activities required for her cleaning business, and was not able to do any work on a ladder. Besides indoor cleaning, Mandi also does roof, gutter, and window cleaning, as well as hanging holiday lights and other activities that require a ladder and hand strength.

She had surgery on her wrist in early November to fix a condition called De Quervain's Tenosynovitis. The surgery "released" the tendon sheath that was causing pain and restriction. The surgery was successful and Mandi was looking forward to having full use of her right hand again. Then on Thanksgiving she had to have emergency surgery because the incision had gotten infected deep inside, despite her taking good care of the incision. Her hand and wrist were red and swollen, and then she noticed a red line traveling up her arm. She had a staph infection but luckily they were able to stop it from spreading. She was in the hospital for 4 days during this time.

Then, on Saturday Jan. 11th, Mandi was hit by a car who turned left in front of her, suddenly, while she was going 50 mph. Luckily her kids were not in the car at the time. Her injuries include bruising to her right wrist (the one with the recent surgeries), and injuries to her left shoulder and right knee. She is not able to lift her left arm above her shoulder, and she is not able to bend her right knee. Without full use of her right or left arms, she is not sure how she will be able to work.

Bruising and scrapes to her right arm from the accident.

The person who hit her did not have insurance, and Mandi did not have uninsured motorist coverage. This leaves her without a vehicle and no insurance coverage to buy a new one. The tow truck driver said the passenger seat of the other person's vehicle was full of needles, and Mandi found out the person has 7 kids. So even if Mandi were to sue, there is likely no money to be had, even if she won the the case.

I have known her for 3 years and have seen how hard she works, and all she does to take care of her family. The string of bad luck and terrible incidents that have happened to her recently is truly off the charts.

As a single mom with 3 kids, she does not have a safety net to fall back on, which is where we come in. When someone goes through something difficult or traumatic, it's support from the community, from friends, family, and strangers, that makes ALL the difference. Difficult situations are traumatic when we feel deeply overwhelmed by them, but when we feel support from others, the overwhelm, and therefore the trauma, is greatly lessened.

In order for Mandi to be able to work and keep a roof over her head, she needs a functioning vehicle and a functioning body. This fundraiser will provide her with money for a vehicle, and help cover lost income.

Here's what the money will go toward:
$12,000 for a reliable Minivan or SUV. Because she has 3 kids, Mandi needs a Minivan or SUV, which is more expensive than a small sedan. While she could potentially find a vehicle for a few thousand dollars, those kinds of cars are rarely reliable and often need expensive repairs. I want her to be able to get a vehicle that won't need repairs in the near future, especially since she needs a reliable vehicle to be able to do her job.

Her doctor said she will likely need 3 months of recovery time for the injuries from the accident. $12,000 will cover 3 months of lost income.

She had to take 2 weeks off after each surgery on her wrist, which equals a month of lost wages. $4,000.

Mandi has lost at least $3,000 in income since her wrist issues started, because she was not able to do any roof, gutter, or window work.

A client loaned her money to buy a very cheap used car that was offered to her after the accident. Despite having a knowledgeable person look at the car before she bought it, it broke down after 2 days, and no longer runs. $1,000.

We are focusing on a smaller initial goal to cover immediate living expenses and help her get a vehicle.

This does not include the cost of medical bills. That amount is unknown at this point.

Please join me in helping Mandi through this difficult time! Join me in being a part of her support team to get her back on her feet.

Thank you SO much!!
