Known to many as the colorful Mama Tits, our much loved friend Brian has been recently diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer.
Just one month ago, Brian went in for his very first routine prostate check. What began as a simple appointment quickly escalated:
• His PSA levels (prostate-specific antigen) came back extremely high.
• An MRI scan revealed a Gleason score of 8, indicating a fast-growing cancer.
• A PET scan then showed the cancer has already entered the early stages of metastasizing.
In just a few weeks, what was initially thought to be manageable has become life threatening. The doctors have informed Brian that surgery to remove his prostate must happen within the next 2–4 weeks. Without treatment, his health will severely decline within six months as the cancer spreads. With surgery and follow-up therapies, Brian has a real chance to fight.
The Treatment Timeline:
• November 1: Emergency surgery to remove the prostate.
• Mid-December: Hormone treatment begins to remove testosterone, slowing the cancer’s ability to grow. Doctors estimate this will cost approximately $6,000.00 USD a month for this medication, up to 3 years.
• February: First month long course of daily radiation therapy in Guadalajara.
• Beyond February: Additional treatments and follow-ups may be scheduled depending on his progress and response to therapy.
• March onward: Continued recovery, with a hopeful return to the stage later in the season.
His recovery will require at least one month of in-care personal treatment in Guadalajara, followed by ongoing medical therapies. With this long road ahead, there is still a 70% chance of remission, and we are holding our hearts and hope stronger than ever.
The Financial Reality
The cost of his treatments, medications, travel, lost income, recovery & therapies will be approximately $300,000 USD. Without insurance coverage to help offset the costs, this burden falls entirely on Brian.
As most know, Brian is a beloved drag performer and activist in our community. Performing is his livelihood, and he will not be able to work for many months while in recovery.
