Help Mama Lee's Wontons Thrive

Donation protected
I started Mama Lee's Wontons in October 2020 as a passion project. It came from a desire to share a warm, comforting bowl of wonton soup during the height of the pandemic when eating out was difficult. During that time, I worked my corporate 8-5 job and made wontons every other weekend. About six months after starting this passion project, the wontons started selling out, and there were customers who became regulars, ordering almost every time. It's been amazing to see this passion project organically grow and to see so many people enjoy these wontons.

After being laid off in October 2024, I started considering making the wonton business my full-time job. But I was scared—scared of the unknowns and what-ifs, scared of failure, scared that it was too much of a risk. I went back and forth for a few months. Then, in January 2025, I decided to take the risk. I ventured into doing pop-ups and have enjoyed the opportunity to serve piping hot wontons to my customers, but I have also discovered that it may not be a sustainable way to build the business. However, my weekend orders and catering have grown significantly, and I find myself needing to raise working capital in order to scale.

Honestly, doing this GoFundMe is one of the most difficult things I've had to do. I've struggled immensely with asking for help, and this is incredibly uncomfortable to do. But I also recognize that this is an area of growth and learning that I need to embrace in this season of my life. And I recognize that I couldn't have come this far without the help of friends, family, and customers.

So, I'm humbly asking for help to raise $8,500 in working capital in order to scale Mama Lee's Wontons. I'm looking to use these funds for the following:
  • Hire part-time help: 10-15 hours/week for the next 6 months at $20/hour = $4,800-$7,200
  • Supplies: food containers, wonton wrappers, and wonton noodles = $1,000-$1,300

I'm still a bit in disbelief that as I'm about to turn 40, I've made this decision to pivot my life & career to do this. Yet, I also can't deny that it's forced me on this wild journey of learning to trust myself and to do something that I believe in. Food is a way to connect people, bring comfort, and build community. My hope is that these wontons can play a part in doing these things.

Thank you for taking the time to even just read about my story & dream. I know the economy is tough right now with everything going on, so if you donating right now is not an option, here's a few other ways to potentially help:
  • Share about Mama Lee's Wontons with your friends, family, coworkers! I offer catering options if folks are looking for some delicious food.
  • Share this GoFundMe with anyone you think might be aligned with the goal & mission
