Diane’s Recovery from Breast Cancer and Car Accident
Donation protected
My name is Alexis, and I am raising funds to help my mom with multiple unexpected financially burdensome medical issues.
If you know my mom, Diane, you know she is the type of person to give the shirt off her back to a complete stranger. She has been a nurse in the community for approximately 3 decades, taking care of some of the most vulnerable populations, and those in need. If you grew up around my mom you know she cared for every kid that found their way into our home, as if they were her own. She is the type to help another person before she helps herself.
My mom, Diane, would never ask for help, but now is a time where she needs it. Please read until the end.
In August 2023, Diane was diagnosed with aggressive triple negative Breast Cancer, after a routine mammogram screening. She underwent a biopsy and diagnostic imaging, which revealed two tumors in her breast.
The next couple months were filled with multiple appointments, consults, and challenges as she navigated this new diagnosis. She received what felt like endless months of aggressive chemo treatments that poisoned her system, in efforts to kill off the cancer. She lost all her hair, developed severe tremors in her upper extremities, suffered from nausea, immense bone pain, and overwhelming fatigue.
In February 2024, we found out the chemo did such a good job of poisoning my mom’s body that it put her in to systolic heart failure. Her Ejection Fraction dropped to 32%, and her chemo treatments had to stop. Her doctors spent weeks finessing her treatments to manage her new diagnosis of heart failure while also treating her aggressive breast cancer. It was a rollercoaster to say the least.
In March 2024, my mom underwent a double Mastectomy to cut out the remaining cancer. Although, the battle continued. Healing was not as linear as we thought it would be.
In June and July my mom would undergo multiple breast reconstructive surgeries, as a result of poor wound healing/infection. Just FYI- if you ever have chemo, it negatively impacts a lot of body systems ☹️
Late July Diane was left with a drain from her 2nd reconstructive breast surgery, that ended up falling out.
July 29,2024 Diane was on her way to her surgeons office to re-evaluate her drainage site, when she collided with a tow truck in the pouring rain.
(This is the better looking side of her vehicle)
She was transported to the Matsu Regional Hospital suffering substantial injuries. Diane sustained fractures to her ulna, radius (left arm), left tibia (leg), and ribs. She sustained multiple large abrasions to numerous parts of her body, and her Left breast expander ruptured in her chest. Essential she fractured her upper and lower left half of her body.
On July 31st, 2024 my mom will be undergoing multiple surgeries as a result of her injuries followed by a long hospitalization.
Unfortunately my mom, Diane, just ran out of FMLA, and lost her medical insurance through her employer one week prior to this incident. She has exhausted all her personal savings on medical deductibles, treatments, gas to get to and from Anchorage for her treatments, her mortgage while she has not been working, and other essential financial obligations. She has zero financial resources left aside from selling her home.
Now she is facing 12+ weeks of recovery and not being able to work to have any income. Additionally, she just lost her only vehicle.
I will be working with the hospital social workers, and financial department to see if she qualifies for any other resources. In the meantime, please pray that no more complications arise before, during, or after her surgery today, and that my mom will be able to get through this. I do not want my mom to have to stress about how to pay August’ mortgage when she is trying to heal from this nightmare.
I will keep everyone up to date through out this process as best I can. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly if you have any questions or want me to pass a message along to my mom.
Any funds raised will go directly towards further medical bills, or her mortgage while she is in the hospital, unable to work.
Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity towards my mom. Please share this gofundme if you are able.
