Help Malik Reach Washington & NYC

I am Malik Childress, a 17-year-old dual enrollment student at Brainerd Highschool and University High, a school on the campus of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and I am extremely excited about an educational trip to Washington, DC and New York planned for March of 2025.

The trip includes visits to historical sites like the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and Ellis Island as well as offering excursions such as a walk through Times Square and watching a live Broadway show. The trip also offers a college history credit which further displays how much of an opportunity the trip is.

This trip means so much to me! It's a journey to places of inspiration and information, to places I've never been to before.

It's more than just a trip to me. As a young, intelligent, black man it's important that I distinguish myself from other scholars. This trip is another opportunity to set myself apart.

As a member of the National Honor Society and the Upward Bound Trio Program, I strive for excellence and embody the spirit of perseverance. I also had the honor of being the only freshman admitted into University High which reflects the dedication and ambition I have for my education.

Despite my eagerness to participate in the trip, I've been severely stressed out about how I would pay for the costs. Neither my mom nor my dad has high paying jobs that could pay for this trip while also paying the bills, and I'm currently occupied with my classes, which hinders me from being able to work to pay for the trip.
