Help Malak's family escape Gaza

Hi, this is Malak, a Gazan freelance journalist, writer, and a university student in the last year of my English Literature major. My life turned upside after October, 2023 and now my family desperately needs funds to escape Gaza into Egypt. The ongoing massive genocide on Gaza imposed many losses in my life. I lost my lovely Islamic University of Gaza, which was bombed and leveled to the ground. We also lost our home and were forcibly displaced to southern Gaza trying to find a place to shelter. We packed just our necessary items including out Identifications and an alternative clothing and left every memory behind. The constant quest searching for safety is unimaginable.

My mom’s daily medication ran out and has become another quest, as it is very rare to find due to the closure of the border crossing that has caused the unbelievable lack of food, medication, cooking gas, and the bare minimum necessities. For five months, our family is doing the same routine for cooking food on the very suffocating wood fire, waiting very long queues to find clean drinking water, going to the charging phone spots that work on the solar panels’ power to charge our phones, and expecting our names to be on the death list while hearing the missiles and rockets rain down on the helpless civilian shelters. The more insane bombs, the faster my mom’s heartbeat goes. Scarce medication, rapid heartbeat, high blood pressure have all made my mom’s situation pitiful.

Even if these missiles did not directly hit us, they hit our beloved ones. Hearing the news of the death of my university professor who I considered a role model and a source of inspiration caused me severe depression. This time, we need to start a new quest for searching for a dignified life where the air is free from suffocating gunpowder, where clean drinking water is available, where ambitions, dreams, and academic goals can be achieved.
