Hi, my name is Chelsea Barnowich and I am raising funds for my friend, Malak, who lives in Gaza.

Malak is 20 years old and 4 months pregnant. She lives in northern Gaza with her husband Diaa. I have known Malak for over a year and we are friends who speak regularly. I have seen her move from place to place, tent to tent, and suffer from a great deal of poverty, starvation and terror during the war. At times there were long stretches where she didn't have access to the internet while she lived in a Egyptian built refugee camp. Their place in the world is never secure, and there is no work available for them to earn an income of their own. At one time Malak and Diaa collected funds to distribute food packages to others in their camp, their generosity is humbling. Malak is currently enrolled in nursing school, it has always been her dream to be a nurse. Diaa is a welder, but has spent his time cleaning rubble out of a bombed house to make it their home for the time being. (as seen in the photos)

Several months ago Malak and Diaa were able to rent a house for $200 a month, but they have been unable to collect the amount needed in order to pay for the last two months and they need to get caught up or they will be evicted.

Malak suffers from malnutrition and needs vitamins and healthy food in order to maintain her health and that of her unborn child. Other basic needs are water, gas for cooking, new clothes and sanitary items.

One day I hope to raise the funds to help Malak emigrate from Gaza to a safer place.
