I was trying to cook dinner for my family, but without a can opener, I did my best with the knife I had. Unfortunately, I accidentally slit my hand while trying to open a can. I rushed to Southern Regional Hospital, but my injury wasn’t taken seriously. I was left in the waiting room with my hand still bleeding and open. When I finally saw a doctor, he seemed overwhelmed and at first said I would get stitches. After leaving and returning, he changed his mind and used medical glue instead, then sent me home after a shot. I still couldn’t feel my finger and told the doctor, but he dismissed it as just pain. When I got home, the wound reopened—either on the way or as soon as I sat down. I was so scared that I called 911, and the ambulance came to my house. They bandaged my hand with gauze and tape and offered to take me to another hospital or make sure I was okay until I could go back in the morning. Since it was already 6 in the morning, I chose to wait and try to get some sleep. The next day, I went to another hospital, where they said I might need surgery and should see a specialist. I don’t have enough money for the specialist, and since I work in a kitchen, this injury has stopped me from working and is hurting my ability to support my family. The funds from this fundraiser will help me cover living expenses, get the treatment I need, and seek proper legal aid for my medical malpractice case.
