Our son Maksym was diagnosed with a very serious genetic disease – progressive Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD - Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy) a few years ago.

I am writing this post and I can’t hold back my tears, because I remember the moment when my heart broke, when life was forever divided into before and after, when the doctor told me the diagnosis

I remember how the doctor told me that his worst guesses were confirmed and how I asked the name of the disease once again because I’d never heard it before. And then I discovered that the disease progresses rapidly, destroys all muscles, deprives the ability to move, swallow, and then breathe. After all, muscles are not only the arms and legs, but also most of the vital organs, such as the heart, lungs, and throat.

Our fight began, we traveled all over the country, then Europe, then the USA. We tried everything. And until recently, there was no medicine in the world for this diagnosis.

But now there is a chance to stop the development of the disease and give Maksym the opportunity to live a normal life. This is the first drug in the world approved by the FDA that completely stops this disease - Elevidys. Its price is $3,000,000. This is a huge amount that is unbearable for one family. But for God nothing is impossible, so I believe with all my heart that with joint efforts we will give Maksym a chance for the future ❤️

Unfortunately, we don't have much time. The disease progresses most in adolescence, when the body wants to grow, most children are paralyzed by the age of 10-12. Six months ago, Maskym walked up the stairs, and now he can barely stand on one leg. But he still walks, that’s why as a mother, I don't want and can't watch how the disease progresses and eats him up, depriving him of the ability to move
