Hi, my name is Tom and I want to fulfill a childhood dream of mine.
--- WHY AM I MAKING THIS POST ---
I work in the IT-Industry (not coding) and spent most of my working life in that field. I recently hit 26 years of age and, like a lot of people, I was frustrated and dissatisfied with my job. Deep down I always knew that this wasn't really what I wanted, so I decided that I want to follow my childhood dream and make the jump into game development to let my dream become reality.
--- THE PITCH ---
I have an idea for a spiritual successor to the [PROTOTYPE] series, split into 2 games which are going to release on all major platforms (PC, PS, XB, and *maybe* even Switch)
The 1st one will be a smaller 3rd person hack and slash roguelite/like, with the basic idea being: The protagonist is from an alien humanoid race that's scouring across the universe looking for civilizations to infect and assimilate into their own. I want their aesthetic to be heavily inspired by the Hive from the Destiny games, but keep the cool transformations and powers from [PROTOTYPE]. I also want to touch on the Virus theme of [PROTOTYPE] for a progression system of some kind, but I'm not sure yet how it will be implemented.
This will be the prologue, aimed at replayability while still telling a coherent overarching story that transitions into the second game which will be much bigger.
The 2nd game will be much more like the actual [PROTOTYPE] games, and my ultimate goal is to make something that could pass as a legitimate spin-off of the original games. I want there to be multiple big locations that you can take over, as well as an acolyte system that allows you to evolve your very own helpers.
I want gameplay that makes you remember [PROTOTYPE] but with much crazier and more innovative ideas (e.g. powers), as well as an overarching theme of evolution into something greater than humankind and eventually leaving your home planet in search of something greater.
TLDR: Imagine [PROTOTYPE3] with updated gameplay and ideas expanded upon from the first 2 games.
--- THE FUNDING ---
The funds will be used exclusively to further the game, like for example:
- An up-to-date rig to handle testing and developing the game
- In-depth Unreal Engine 5 learning courses
- Art, assets, models, animations, voiceovers, SFX, ...
- Licenses for e.g. modeling software
I want to clarify that the funds from the campaign will go towards the first game, the second game will be funded by whatever profits I make off of the first one.
