Hi, I’m Makenna’s mom, Amanda, and we’re reaching out for help as we face mounting medical expenses and upcoming travel to the Mayo Clinic.

For the past two years, Makenna has been struggling with severe physical symptoms and frequent fainting spells. These episodes have been life-altering—she’s been unable to finish school, hold a job, or live the life any 21-year-old should be able to enjoy. We’ve spent countless hours in emergency rooms—sometimes arriving by ambulance—working with her primary care doctor, and seeing specialists including neurologists, cardiologists, ENT doctors, and chiropractors. Despite numerous tests and consultations, we still don’t have clear answers.

Recently, UAMS identified her symptoms as Dysautonomia, a disorder that affects the autonomic nervous system. They prescribed a beta blocker, which has helped somewhat, but not enough for her to regain her independence. She has continued to experience severe fatigue and fainting episodes, even losing another job because of her condition.

At this point, we’ve exhausted nearly every medical option available in Arkansas. The next step is to take Makenna to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, where specialists can help us find the underlying cause of her Dysautonomia and hopefully develop a treatment plan. Unfortunately, Mayo Clinic does not accept her insurance and requires a minimum of $5,000 upfront just to begin the evaluation process.
