Hi, everyone! I'm Makenna. My family says I'm a bright, spunky 6-year-old with a heart made of gold.

When I was 5 months old, I suffered an injury that stemmed into a slight developmental delay. I also began having seizures. After what seemed like an eternity of therapy sessions and doctor appointments, my progress had drastically improved and the seizures stopped; we were finally able to wean me off of my medications (yay!).

Fast-forward to April of 2022, my school called Mom and told her that I had been actively seizing for 7 minutes (they called the ambulance after 5 minutes and then called Mom). Mom rushed over to my school and comforted me as much as she could before they took me to the emergency room (with Mom right behind them). Before I knew it, we were back in the swing of neurologist appointments. We tried different medications to see which would work better for me, but even with all our efforts, the seizures still continue. I've even completed a sleep-deprived EEG, and while the procedure went as expected and the results showed abnormal brain activity, my type of Epilepsy and the triggers for my seizures have not been determined. I still continue to get seizures on a weekly basis, at all times of the day; it happens when we're brushing my teeth, drying my hair, during meals, at school, and sometimes even when we're grocery shopping.

After much research, my parents have made the decision to help me go about my day by day with a new furry friend--a seizure alert dog. This dog will not only be a new companion for me and a new addition to our family, but will also be specifically trained to sense an upcoming seizure, alert one of my family members, and aid me both during and after. All GoFundMe funds raised for me will go towards the fees for acquiring the dog, as well as assist in any future needs for the dog itself.
