Makeen’s Medical School Fund

I’m excited to announce that I will be starting medical school at the Charles Drew University (CDU) College of Medicine in L.A. as part of their inaugural class! My name is Makeen, and I am an incoming first year medical student to CDU, the only historically Black graduate institution west of the Mississippi. After organizing around youth rights and justice movements in L.A. and doing DEI and anti-racism work within medical education these past 5 years, I am proud to start my journey in medicine with such a historic institution. I am in need of funding support to help cover living expenses, potential tuition costs, supplement costs for moving and housing, and to help recover from unexpected expenses faced in my family this year, as well as those experienced during my application year. Because I will be unemployed in the months leading up to my official start of classes end of August, this is also to help sustain me in my transition leading up to the start of school. No amount is too small, every bit helps get one step closer towards serving my people and my community as a healer. The percentage of Black male physicians in the United States is 2.6%, and hasn’t changed since the 1940’s. That changes starting today. Other ways of donating - Cashapp: $MKYsr, Venmo: @Makeen-Yasar, Zelle via phone. Much love!
