We're putting on a streaming event to raise money for the next Haggard Cat record - You're all welcome to watch, December 1st - 8pm , no ticket required!
- All we ask is those that can, give what they can to support our fundraiser and the future of this band
Look, we're going to be honest with you, it's been a bit of a rough old year, you're probably hearing that a whole lot, but without mincing words it's all gone a bit tits up.
To kick off what was meant to be a monumental year for us, we had the release of our new album Common Sense Holiday. We put absolutely everything we had into creating the best album we could and 2 years of work in the run-up to it. All our savings went into the music videos, the press shoots, the special edition tour merch and some pretty pricey ferry tickets over to Ireland to commence the tour. Everything was in place, the press seemed to love it and the tour was selling incredibly well. We started in Ireland on March 12th. Ireland went into full lockdown March 13th (coincidentally the same day our album was out). We did all we could and dropped more cash on early ferry tickets back to attempt the UK part of the tour. Two days later the UK also went into lockdown.
So we found ourselves broke, with a tonne of merch and a brand new album that we were now physically unable get out there and market. We did however figure that although we couldn't play shows and push the release as we usually would, we at least had the support of a label to do some behind the scenes marketing that our album would now need to not disappear into the void. It didn't take long to find out that this definitely wasn't going to happen either.
Never fear though! Our amazing team were able to lift the whole tour into September 2020 so we could get back to it. Yeah... No that couldn't happen either.
So we decided to do the only thing we felt now made sense, we started work on new material. We figured the best way to keep our momentum was to hit the world with something even better the second normality returned in 2021. We approached our label, they weren't interested. Cool.
So now we found ourselves circling the drain a little bit, no financial backing, no label, absolutely no touring until 2021 (currently rescheduled for March/April... fingers crossed) so no way of generating cashflow. It was beginning to look bleak, but don't worry it gets better...
We realised that although now being completely DIY without label ties was going to be a lot of hard work to begin with, we were free. This was exactly what we needed. Our inspiration and productivity were through the roof, it was like this new found freedom was better motivation than anything we could have imagined, we were back to practicing for hours, twice to three times a week and coming out with bunches of our best new material every time we left our little practice room. It was awesome.
Around about this time we were approached by producer Adrian Bushby. He's produced everyone From Smashing Pumpkins to Foo Fighters and he's won two Grammys in the process. We're still in disbelief that he personally wants to work with us on our next release. So we kept on working hard, and talked to his team and locked the whole session in, ready to go.
There's only one problem now. As I mentioned, completely honestly, we're broke and studio time costs money. We've explored all viable financial avenues an grants and been knocked back each and every time. Bottom line, we're now doing a bit of fundraising that is extremely important for this band's future. But we're really not into asking for money for doing absolutely nothing, so we're putting on a streaming event. You'll get to see Haggard Cat like you've never seen us before. Full production, video screens and an insane light show over 10 cameras; we get to now show you what the next chapter of the band looks like. What's more, we'll be playing our latest album Common Sense Holiday from start to finish (you know, since everyone is STILL yet to hear these songs live)
As we know times are hard for everyone right now, so we are making this show available to absolutely everyone live at 8pm, Tuesday December 1st via our Facebook and Youtube pages - no need to buy a ticket, just set your reminders now! All we ask, is that those that watch and are able donate what they can to help us carry on.
Okay that's it. Watch it, please support and with a little bit of luck we'll see you on the other side with something even bigger and better than you ever could have imagined in 2021
Big love,
Matt, Tom & Chris
