Help Make Suz Independent Again
Suz Welch, once an active Camp Director for Camp Hantesa is now unable to walk and relies on her wheelchair for mobility. As a result of severe arthritis and a fall in 2013, Suz's spinal cord is crushed. She has undergone several spinal cord surgeries and a spinal fusion in an attempt to correct her paralysis, but remains in the wheelchair.
The hardest thing for Suz about being a paraplegic, is the loss of independence, and the inability to go different places, explore nearby Ledges State Park, and visit friends in rural Boone County, Iowa. While she once was able to do all of those things and more, she is now unable to go very many places in her wheelchair.
Suz has found a person that will put adaptive equipment on an off-road vehicle, which would allow her to use a hand accelorator with a brake. The vehicle is a Polaris RZR 900 50 and comes with roll bars, a helmet and a 4-point seat belt restraint.
Suz needs $17,000 to purchase and adapt this off-road vehicle which is vital to her independence.
Reasons Suz needs an off-road vehicle:
*Suz had to give up her driver's license and is unable to go places independently.
*Even going to the mailbox is a challenge in her wheelchair.
*Several times , mud, snow and adverse weather have left Suz stranded outside in her wheelchair.
*Suz would be able to join other people with handicaps in off-road vehicles on available Iowa trails.
* And finally, Suz would have the feeling of independence once again.
Please donate to help Suz Welch regain her independence. She spent her life as a Camp Director, helping kids and families enjoy the outdoors. Please help Suz enjoy the outdoors once again.
Please donate soon, so Suz doesn't have to spend another summer in her wheelchair, restricted, and without her independence.
