Help Make Shift Boston Become Sustainable

In a city that prioritizes the desires of the wealthy over the needs of its people, a space dedicated to progressive activism, arts, and community shouldn’t exist. Yet, since 2010, Make Shift has been there, providing a space for marginalized people to learn, grow, and fight for our future. Our collective has worked tirelessly over the years to keep our space independent and accountable to the communities we serve. Our vision is to increase its affordability and accessibility in the coming years. In order to do that, we are hoping to raise a couple months of rent while we enter this new phase of capacity building.
Make Shift’s rent is paid through membership dues and we do everything in our power to make our dues affordable to marginalized people. This has resulted in us being able to make rent every month, but just barely. In recent months, we have had to pay it late due to member turnover.
We are asking you, our community, to help us. Make Shift needs $5000 dollars to pay our rent through the month of May 2020. Without the constraint of rent, we can spend the next few months working to make our space more financially accessible and more pleasing to the eye by rolling out new discount programs, strengthening our brand new volunteer program, and increasing our capacity for stipended admin and reorganizing work.
Against all odds, Make Shift exists. Make Shift exists due to the beauty and passion of the artists, activists, poets, musicians, dancers, yogis, boxers, teachers, learners, and revolutionaries who have walked through our doors. Donate and keep our doors open for all those who believe in a better world.
