Help Make Sara Hepton Jones Comfortable at Home

Donation protected
As most of you know, Sara has been battling cancer for the last four years. She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2018 and from the very start, she was absolutely determined to fight. After undergoing a lumpectomy, along with chemotherapy and radiation Sara was ready to put this behind her and looking forward to returning to work as a Special Education teacher with the Catholic Schoolboard.

In October 2019, she received the heartbreaking news that the cancer had metastasized to her brain. Since this time, Sara has undergone not one, but two, brain surgeries, one of which she was awake for, she has also undergone countless targeted radiation treatments and infusions. Throughout all of this, Sara has remained steadfast and determined. Her motto has always been ‘brave and strong’ and she has walked this incredibly difficult path with the grace and positivity most of us could only dream of. Sara has been open about the progression of her illness, sharing updates with all of those who love her on social media and in turn giving others who may be going through hardships the strength and bravery to keep fighting. Sara truly is an inspiration to so many.

One of Sara’s biggest motivators in this long battle has been her two beautiful children – Kadin (18) and Hana (15). Sara is a dedicated mother who loves her children unconditionally and would do absolutely anything to be able to cheer them as they evolve from teenagers into young adults and beyond. The wonderful people they have already become is a true testament to Sara and her greatest legacy. Her next great motivator is her husband and one true love, Dave. Sara and Dave met and started dating when they were teenagers, they celebrated twenty-two years of marriage earlier this month. Nothing tests a relationship quite like cancer, but Dave and Sara have come through stronger then ever, no hurdle can test their love and commitment to one another.

Sara still has two lesions remaining in her brain, which are causing her to have major mobility limitations. At the moment, Sara is unable to use her right leg and is dependent on a walker to get around. As the disease progresses, Sara is noticing her mobility is starting to be more limited in her right arm, potentially indicating that due to the location and progression of the tumor, Sara may lose all mobility in this side of her body. Sara’s wish is to remain at home with her beloved husband and children. This is where we need your help.

In order to equip Sara’s home so she can remain living there safely and comfortably, the following is needed:
1. The bathroom needs to be remodelled to be made more accessible;
2. A stair lifts need to be installed so she can get out of and around the house;
3. A ramp in the garage is needed, as well as a new ramp at the front door;
4. An electric wheelchair is needed.

The costs associated with these accessibility renovations, as well as an electric wheelchair are prohibitive. Due to her illness, Sara has been unable to work since Spring 2018 and Dave has left his job to become Sara’s primary caregiver. This is an extremely difficult time for the family emotionally and financially. We are looking for donations to help ease some of the financial stress of the renovations and wheelchair so Sara can stay at home comfortably with her family. We are also open to, any extremely appreciative of, any local contractors or businesses willing to help with the work. Any little bit helps. In addition, we ask you to please send all of the positive and healing vibes, thoughts, prayers and messages Sara’s way. She appreciates this more than you know. On behalf of Sara and her family, we are forever grateful. Thank you all so much.
