Sacred Deceptions is a Bible study book that examines the important doctrines of Christianity and invites readers to open the Bible and examine Scripture for themselves.

It was written from inside prison by Emmanuel Trotter, after years of prayer and study led him to question teachings he had once accepted and to examine what he believes are long-standing errors within the Christian faith.

How This Book Began

In Emmanuel’s words:

For years, through prayer and much study, God had been opening the Scriptures to me in ways that challenged things I had previously understood and believed. I began putting some of those studies on paper for my own use, never intending to write a book. They were notes and outlines I could draw from when I had the opportunity to teach.

But as I continued to study and write, I became convinced that what God was showing me wasn’t meant only for me. These studies needed to be shared with other believers.

What began as personal study was becoming a book. And I was reluctant.

Writing from inside prison, my resources were limited. I had no idea how to write a book, much less how I would ever get one from inside these walls into the hands of people around the world. But the conviction to write would not leave me. So, in obedience to what I believed God was calling me to do, I began.

With the help of my wife, Kim, what once seemed impossible is now nearing completion. Kim has served as my outside voice and partner, typing handwritten manuscripts, assisting with research and editing, and handling the many practical aspects of publication and distribution that I simply cannot do from here.

As the manuscript neared completion, we began exploring how to publish it. We contacted traditional publishers, ministry-based publishers, and companies that help authors self-publish. Some opportunities were simply unavailable to us, while others required thousands of dollars upfront and depended upon a traditional sales model.

As we considered those options, we realized there was a larger issue. We wanted to preserve the message Emmanuel had written, maintain control over how the book was distributed, and, most importantly, make it possible for people to receive it without cost standing in the way. So we decided to take a different route.

Why We Are Asking

Bringing Sacred Deceptions from manuscript to publication and putting it into the hands of readers carries real costs. Because we do not have the means to print physical copies ourselves, we will use Amazon’s KDP platform for printing and distribution.

Making money from this book is not our purpose. Amazon sales are an unavoidable consequence of KDP’s publishing and printing requirements. It is not our intent that anyone should have to purchase the book through Amazon, although anyone is free to do so if they choose. We will set author royalties at the minimum amount allowed under KDP’s current pricing structure, and any royalties received will go directly back into the Sacred Deceptions ministry.

That is why we are asking for help.

The priority of all donations and royalties will be producing and distributing Sacred Deceptions and covering the practical costs necessary to carry out this ministry. This includes publication and distribution expenses, maintaining the website, and covering communication expenses necessary for Emmanuel to participate in the ministry from prison and respond to readers’ questions. In limited circumstances, funds may also be used to help with Emmanuel’s personal needs.

We will keep careful records of all campaign and ministry funds and provide periodic financial summaries through the Sacred Deceptions website.

Jesus never charged anyone to learn the Word of God. Neither did His apostles or disciples. They ministered freely, while those who believed in their work helped support their ministry. That is the model we desire to follow.
