UPDATE-Roy Proctor's Last Wishes Came True, but sadly ended
Donation protected
***UPDATE...My son, Roy, fought a VERY brave battle, living longer than originally estimated. I was with him when he quietly passed in our home in Heppner, Oregon 1-18-2024. Sadly, 13 days later his older sister, Josie Proctor Keyes, passed away from Fanconi Anemia, also. For photos and info about their Double Memorial Mass on 4-27-2024, go to https://www.facebook.com/kay.proctor.92/ Because of your generous donations, Roy was able to explore not only New England, but also Iceland and Key West before he came home to Heppner Oregon. Thank you for your kindness and generosity. Remember to let those you love and care know how you feel. I will always remember how you helped my son...my love to you.**** My son, Roy Proctor, has bravely dealt with his rare disease of Fanconi Anemia. http://www.fanconi.org/ with two unmatched, unrelated bone marrow transplants (Memorial Sloan Kettering CC in NYC and Doernbecher CH in Portland) and multiple cancers, which affect FA patients much more aggressively than non-FA patients. Growing up in Heppner, Oregon, Roy dealt with his health challenges and later graduated from Portland State University cum laude with a degree in Psychology. While coping with daily pain and Covid restrictions, he slowly improved physically to move on with a positive attitude. In August 2021 he was accepted at the prestigious University of the Sciences in Philadelphia for his Master's Degree in Hospital Psychology with the goal of helping others who had chronic diseases and illnesses. Upon establishing with the University of Pennsylvania Cancer Center it was discovered that even with regular monitoring and doctoring that he had leukemia, which is fatal to people with Fanconi Anemia. His wonderful physician in Philadelphia consulted worldwide, then created a customized experimental treatment for Roy beginning in October 2021 which at first seemed hopeful. After complications, it was decided that it was doing Roy more harm than good, and treatments ended in February 2022. Roy had to tell me, his mother, that he is terminal and I had to share that with his Dad, Mike, and his two sisters, Josie and Julie. In this unpredictable time left, Roy is trying very hard to continue his involvement at college, with support from their caring staff, and as always, he reads, studies, and researches online. He has a compassionate circle of friends, especially JR, who is there for him and recently treated him to a trip to New York to watch the Lion King on Broadway. A trip to the Oregon Coast has been planned, thanks to a kind family donating the use of their house there. Mike and I visited Roy in Philly on his birthday (December 25th) and Christmas and we will be with him at the Coast, too. We help in every way we possibly can, including paying his rent and his airfare to Oregon. We wondered, would others who know Roy want to help make some of his last wishes come true? Any other plans depend on how he feels...no grand plans and no grand purchases...just spending time with his family and his friends...he has no car and prefers to walk or take the subway, but once in while paying for a Uber would be nice...or buying gas for a friend's car...or paying for the meal at a restaurant...just small things while being with caring people and enjoying Life. I realize that people have kindly helped with medical expenses for Roy during medical crises over the past 22+ years since his diagnosis. It is very, very hard for me to ask of anyone, but am doing so that we all have a chance to let him know we cared in the past and still care now. He has mentioned to me more than once that he doesn't want to be a burden to anyone which I know he is not. He has worked as a teacher and tutor for a paycheck, volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House, and also the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society only having to quit due to yet another health emergency, so I know he has tried so much to contribute to Society the best he could. Excuse my rattling on about my son...and Thank you for any contributions to help make Roy's Last Wishes Come True.
