Hi, it’s Tracey and Moamen.
Tracey: I got in contact with Moamen (I live in Lancashire, England) via his Instagram account in July. I had followed his story for many months before, but the terror he was expressing daily as Israel invaded Gaza City in August led me to donate to his evacuation fund (14th displacement). I don’t think there has been a day since that we have not been in contact.
The situation in Gaza remains terrible - barely any aid being allowed in, bombings continue daily, all goods cost too much to be afforded. It is now necessary for us to help again, if we can. Moamen needs to buy materials to make the family shelters ready for a fast approaching winter.
Can you donate to this beautiful family to help keep them warmer and drier during winter in Gaza? What politicians won’t do - we ordinary people can and have made a difference directly on the ground in Gaza, with the Alashqar family.
My husband Jay and me set up a fundraising walk to support Moamen and his family escape the obliteration of Gaza City and build shelter in Khan Yunis. Our wonderful community of friends and relatives raised over £1300 from a target of £500! We have, in donating, all become part of this very special and important ongoing story with our family who are enduring and surviving genocide.
Moamen: Your kindness changed our lives. Thanks to your incredible generosity you helped my family escape from Gaza City. Our terror at being trapped, starved and bombed was something I cannot describe in words. Your actions helped give us the means to survive the erasing of our neighbourhood and now, entire city. Every single donation you kindly gave, strengthened our collective resilience to endure, survive and hope once more. You give us hope and the knowledge that we are not facing this genocide alone in this world. Thank you. We are unable to return to our destroyed homes because we are from North West Gaza, beyond Israel’s Yellow Line. Our tents must get us though the winter here in Southern Gaza. We need to work quickly to make them better shelters as the weather gets colder and wetter.
- This fundraiser is to provide the materials to make our family tents more ready for winter.
- The pictures show that we need to use plastic on the roof to help keep rain out. Right now the rain streams into the tents. As temperatures drop this will become hard to bear.
- We need plastic groundsheets over the bare earth - to manage rising groundwater, keep insects and vermin out and for better hygiene. My niece Tia is in her tent in the picture, bare earth beneath her feet.
- Ground sheets and plastic roofing will help keep us warmer.
- The tents need securing against high winds with additional wooden supports.
As a result of severe shortages this will cost over £1000. A crazy amount in more normal times here in Gaza. If we can raise £600, it will get us started with this vital work. We hope you can donate again and help me and my family - help isn’t arriving as free aid as we’d hoped.
Please donate if you can - no amount is too small! If you can’t donate please share the link (please do this anyway).
With heartfelt gratitude,
Moamen and Tracey
