Help Save and Care for Abandoned Cats in Amman

We are four friends who are working in the humanitarian sector in the Middle East — and we each share our homes with rescued cats, mainly from Amman, Jordan. Sadly, Amman’s streets are full of abandoned cats, including many pedigrees once sold in pet shops and then discarded when their owners lost interest. These animals, bred for comfort, struggle to survive on the streets.

Across the city, a growing community of cat lovers is doing its best — feeding, sheltering, and working to trap, neuter, and release cats to give them a better life. But the numbers are overwhelming.

An extraordinary woman from the Philippines, living in Jordan, has quietly dedicated the past 16 years to rescuing and caring for the cats in her own neighbourhood*. Every evening, she feeds around 200 cats, and her small home shelters 50–60 cats and 7 dogs. Her dream is to turn her space into a safe, cozy, and healthy haven — a place where cats can heal, roam freely, and live with dignity. But she cannot do this alone.

Recently her 9-year old cat, Bennie, who had lived with her from birth, succumbed to kidney failure. A sad goodbye and we're all going to miss Bennie. Which is why in honour of his memory, we name the cat shelter, Bennie's Sanctuary and we'll all strive to keep his memory alive by helping as many cats as possible.

*We have chosen not to include her name here and publicly, to protect her safety as she has been exposed to challenges from those who sadly do not appreciate her contribution to animal welfare.

Our First Priority: Neutering, Vaccinating, and Treating Urgent Cases

Winter in Amman is harsh, and many cats are at serious risk. To protect them, the cats have currently been kept in large cages to prevent fights and pregnancies — but they urgently need to be spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and released safely.

We’ve partnered with a trusted local veterinary clinic offering discounted rates for these services, and we’ve created an organized tracking system for every cat in the sanctuary.

Your contribution will go directly toward:

$80 – Covers neutering/spaying, full vaccination (rabies + FVRCP), flea and deworming treatment, 1–2 nights of boarding, and transport to and from the clinic.

$100 – Contributes towards supporting costs involved for cats needing urgent medical care (X-rays, blood tests, medications, boarding, and transport). Many suffer from respiratory infections, pneumonia, or other serious illnesses.

Every dollar makes a difference — and together, we can reduce suffering, prevent disease, and help these cats live safely before winter sets in.

Follow Their Journey

We’ll be sharing photos, videos, and vet invoices for transparency, and to show each cat’s journey toward recovery and freedom.

Thank you for helping us bring hope, warmth, and a future to Amman’s forgotten cats.

Your kindness truly saves precious lives.

Just a few of the cats who need your help:

Little Mizuki is a Turkish Angora kitten, found stranded on the streets, in a very dire condition. She needs treatment urgently.

Little Princess needs medical treatment for her eyes so the infection she has doesn't impact her vision. And mummy needs to be spayed so she no longer gets pregnant again and again.

Dinner time for the neighbourhood street cats at Bennie's Sanctuary.
