Hi all! My name is Megan and in February this year I set up a small sewing business called Eltrabs and I am in desperate need of an industrial sewing machine! I know the current state of the cost of living isn't ideal (and that's putting it lightly) but £5 from just 350 people would help achieve this goal and will be so so, so appreciated!! Here's a little background on me and what your lovely donations will be spent on! <3
I have been sewing since I was 17 and have always been interested in anything creative. I did an apprenticeship in sewing, manufacturing high end outdoor wear and haven't stopped sewing since! I currently still work full time, in sewing, and run Eltrabs on a weekend basis. Ive recently just changed my hours at my full time job to have Fridays off. This means I can dedicate all my Fridays to Eltrabs! Its a small step in the right direction.
Since Family, friends and work colleagues have been coming to me for over the last decade to help with anything sewing related, I decided to buy a new domestic machine and open Eltrabs up to the public. What I did not get expect was the demand! (This is not a complaint in the slightest, i am overwhelmed with how grateful I am for people to put trust in me and my new business!)
But, after being on an industrial sewing machine for the last 12 years in my career, a domestic machine does not cut it (if you sew, you know!) The domestic machine is fantastic for all the stitches a industrial flat bed sewing machine can't do (e.g button holes ect) but the more heavy duty side of sewing, it can not handle. Domestic machines are also A LOT more time consuming so with an industrial machine I can get through more customer work more quickly! This also means hopefully a better future for Eltrabs ✨
(You can check out some of my work online at www.eltrabs.co.uk and on our socials!)
As for the logo and branding of Eltrabs, after many failed attempts, the design is inspired by my grandma Alice! She was the homemade queen from knitting, card making and doll house building. As a child I remember her always putting a jumping rabbit over a moon on the back of cards saying Eltrabs (my last name backwards). So this is a little nod to one of the people who inspired me to be creative! ✨ Everything associated with Eltrabs is drawn/designed by me and me only. No AI used!
With running Eltrabs Friday - Sundays, this means I'm working full time 7 days a week. As tiring as this is, I do this because I LOVE what I do but one of the big reasons why all of this matters is because the world is telling us every day that it can't stand any more landfill! Over 300,000 tones of clothes go into landfill each year just in the UK. We can help reduce this one piece of clothing at a time by getting things fixed up and prolonging each pieces lifespan. Even if you want something repairing for sentimental reasons, it still helps you and the planet!
Last but not least, your donations will be put towards an industrial sewing machine and other essential equipment. Thank you for taking the time to read through my ramble and for any donations sent over! You have no idea how appreciated you are ✨
Please use and support small businesses!!
