Help Make A Difference In Sara’s Cancer Journey

Donation protected
If you’ve ever met Sara, you know she’s an exceptionally caring and loving presence in our lives. Whether it’s her family and friends, her communities, or the innumerable clients she’s worked with, Sara has a natural drive to bring light, compassion, and support to the people in her life.

A few months ago, we learned some difficult news: Sara has been diagnosed with breast cancer. What followed was a whirlwind of phone calls, consultations, blood work, and scans. After hours upon hours of coordination, we finally began treatment. Here we are almost two months in, and Sara has been undergoing chemotherapy for a while now. In early 2023, her chemotherapy will likely be followed by surgery and additional therapies. This will ensure her cancer goes into remission, and life can return to a semblance of normalcy. But right now, we’re in the thick of this battle.

When Sara began working at a new company last year, her health insurance changed. Though this didn’t seem like a big deal at the time, she’s now in a situation where her coverage has been put to the test. We learned quickly just how expensive it is to treat cancer the right way. We’re extremely grateful she is insured and will continue to be, but there will still be plenty of expenses for this year, next year, and likely years to come. Just over these past three months, expenses have added up quickly. Though we’re extremely grateful Sara is receiving treatment, the looming costs are something anyone with a major health setback can relate to. Just making it through this journey will be an arduous enough feat in its own right.

We’ve set up a GoFundMe for Sara. We aim to provide an opportunity for people to donate to her cause if they feel moved to do so. Every donation received will be applied toward current, near-term, and long-term costs associated with Sara’s cancer journey. As of this time, we’re setting a goal of $20,000. We’ve arrived at this number based on a few factors. First, Sara’s insurance has already billed her for $8,700 which is her 2022 out-of-pocket maximum. Come 2023, her numbers reset, and she’ll quickly be billed for at least another $3,000 due to three more months of chemo, surgery, and other potential procedures and medications. This adds up to a guaranteed conservative figure of $12,000.

In addition, Sara isn’t able to work as much as we’d anticipated. The number of days she can work is a fraction of what it once was. With disability income, she will be fortunate enough to receive half her average work wages for a set amount of time. That money will help cover her most basic living expenses. Sara also recently had a surprise expense - her catalytic converter was stolen again despite installing safety devices. With that said, she may be shopping for a budget-friendly car in the very near future, considering she has important appointments on a weekly basis. In summary, this cancer diagnosis is already proving to be a significant financial consideration in the near term. Given all these factors, this is the basis for our $20,000 goal.

All of your help, prayers, and support are priceless. It means the world to Sara and her caring team. Thank you dearly, and may we all continue to live in love.
