Sebastiaan and Nadya, devoted partners and dedicated police officers, are facing a heart-wrenching reality. Nadya's diagnosis with an incurable form of cancer has cast a long shadow over their family, while Bas bravely battles the invisible wounds of complex PTSD. Their 14-year-old daughter, Zarah, navigates the turbulent waters of adolescence while carrying the heavy weight of her parents illnesses. As if this weren't enough, the recent, sudden loss of two of their beloved dogs has left an aching void in their home and in their hearts. Their remaining dog, once full of life, now wanders the house, whimpering, searching for her lost playmates. Witnessing her grief is a constant, painful reminder of their loss.

The weight of these burdens is compounded by a deeply uncertain financial future. With both Sebastiaan and Nadya on reduced incomes, the path ahead feels daunting and unpredictable.

Despite the darkness that surrounds them, their spirit shines through. They find strength in each other's love, laughter in shared moments, and focus on the precious time they have together. In Bas's words: "We are not to be pitied!! We remain positive!" Their community has embraced them with open arms, providing meals, running errands, helping with household chores, and tending their garden. Their gratitude for this support is immeasurable.

Yet, a few heartfelt wishes remain. They long to bring a new furry friend into their home, not to replace the irreplaceable, but to offer comfort to their grieving dog and bring a spark of joy back into their lives. They also dream of creating one last precious memory together as a family – a vacation, a respite from the relentless pressure of illness and uncertainty. These simple joys, however, are financially beyond their grasp.
