I’m Makayla, a recent graduate getting ready to start college and major in psychology. Over the summer, I developed a Bartholin gland abscess, but because I was uninsured and scared of the financial strain, I put off getting it checked out. By the time the pain became unbearable and I finally went to the ER, the abscess had grown very large. Doctors were concerned it may have spread to my stomach, so they ran extensive blood tests and other exams. In the end, I was left with a medical bill of around $2,000, and I am still dealing with a lot of pain as I recover.

Right now, I’m unable to walk normally, and because of that I haven’t been able to work. My healing is expected to take about three weeks, and during this time I’m struggling to keep up with everyday expenses while also preparing for this next chapter of my life. The support from this fundraiser will help me cover my remaining medical bills, pay off my credit card, and buy groceries and other necessities while I recover.
