Hello, my name is Makala Marie Pendley.
I'm 29 years old. I have 7 children, 6 boys and 1 girl.
I grew up in Georgia with a single mom in poverty. I met a 30-year-old man as a 16 year old girl in Appalachia with the promise to take me out of poverty and provide me with a real life.
I fell pregnant within months of knowing him with our first son, and that would be the beginning of a never-ending nightmare for the next 13 years. A nightmare of extreme physical, mental, and financial abuse. I escaped from our Alaskan property in 2023 and fell financially flat and was forced to return to my abuser (the father of the children).
He was convicted of domestic violence and harassment, and we fled to Mexico so that he could deflect those charges. I am a God-fearing woman and live by what is right in God's eyes.
So I tried to continue being a God-loving wife. The abuse in Mexico was so extreme it almost killed me.
I fled after attempted femicide, escaped out the front door that was typically barred shut. He fled with the children, and the police found them after 3 days of an issued Amber Alert.
I have never caught a break in my life.
I am now homeless, with no family to help, and zero resources.
I am currently living in Indianapolis, and every resource here is stretched thin.
We are not used to the city life and are scared.
I'm asking for this money to afford my first vehicle and home and to rebuild what we have lost. We have nothing.
Please support this cause and let 8 trauma survivors breathe easy for the first time in their lives.
Thank you, God bless.
