Help Makaela Get to AIMS GRAZ!

Hello,

My name is Makaela Shade-Alexander. I have recently been accepted to AIMS Vocal Program, which will take place this summer in Graz, Austria, from July 4th, 2022- to August 14th, 2022.

For as long as I can remember, music has been a part of my everyday life. During elementary school, I participated in every music and arts activity. In my fifth-grade year, we put on the play Annie, and I was cast as Ms. Hannigan singing her debut song, "Little girls." I felt like a star! The rush of the costume changes, running on and off stage, memorizing lines, etc., kept me going. After the show, I remember the great compliments I received, which made me feel like I was just where I needed to be. During middle school, I also danced and played the violin, learning all things music, from theory to sight-singing, reading music, etc.

 

In high school, at Duke Ellington School of the Arts, I discovered my love for classical music, from the nuances to the dramaticism, the dynamics, and the instrumentation. I later pursued a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance at Montclair State University and graduated in 2020. My goal is to become a well-known international opera singer performing worldwide. This program will put me on the right path to success, helping me network and expand my knowledge as an artist altogether.

 

AIMS is a six-week intensive program that prepares you for a professional career in the industry, giving you the tools needed to succeed throughout your artist journey. Courses focus on the standard operatic repertoire with emphasis on the works of Mozart and Strauss. I will be receiving voice lessons and coachings twice a week, diction, conversational German, masterclasses, audition prep and more. It’s a summer dedicated to finding yourself and your talent and committing to becoming a professional musician.
