This is a message from Brien & Avelyn regarding Major’s IVDD and care. Major has been with us since December, when we began fostering him for family. Even though he wasn’t originally ours, we’ve loved him like our own from the start. Fostering Major has been a journey—he’s a breed I never thought I’d have, and we’ve had to work through some quirks and challenges, especially getting him to get along with our other dogs. But despite everything, he just fits perfectly in our home and hearts.

Last Wednesday night, Major suddenly lost the use of both his back legs. By Thursday morning, he was diagnosed with IVDD, a spinal disease that causes paralysis. Major’s dad already had a lot on his plate, and caring for a dog with a lifelong health condition was more than he could manage. That’s when Major officially became part of our family, finding his “furever home” with us. We don’t know if Major will ever fully recover, even with a very expensive surgery, but his vet is confident that he can still have a good quality of life with the right care. His current treatment plan includes steroids, pain meds, and strict rest. He has no use of his back legs, but he still has feeling in his toes and some reflexes. He was unable to go potty for two days, and now he’s experiencing incontinence, but we’re seeing small improvements and he’s kept his strong fighting spirit.

All funds raised will go directly to Major’s medical care—vet visits, medications, treatments, a wheelchair, and any other needs that come up.
