While so many of us were celebrating the Fourth of July, everything changed at Majic Stables. Powerful winds tore through the property, destroying the riding arena and leaving behind unimaginable devastation. I drove out to help Mary Shappee, and what unfolded is something I won’t soon forget. One beautiful horse suffered a catastrophic injury that required euthanasia. My heart is broken—for the horse and his family, for everyone who calls Majic Stables home, and especially for Mary Shappee. She is so much more than Marli’s trainer—she is family to us. Mary has been part of Marli’s life since she was just 5 years old, teaching her not only how to ride, but how to work hard, persevere, and love these incredible animals. Watching someone you care about face this kind of loss is heartbreaking. But if there is one thing I know about Mary, it’s that we are resilient. We will grieve, we will clean, and she won’t do it alone.
With the arena destroyed, lessons, camps, clinics, and other programs have come to an unexpected halt. Those programs are not only Mary’s livelihood—they also help provide the daily care the horses depend on, including feed, hay, bedding, veterinary care, and other essential expenses. While the lessons have stopped, the horses still need to be fed and cared for every single day. We are asking for your help during this incredibly difficult time. Your donation will help support the daily care and feeding of the horses, replace damaged equipment, offset the loss of income from canceled lessons and camps, and help Mary begin rebuilding so riders can safely return to the place they love.
