Meet Majesty, the pup whose incredible survival against the odds has captivated the Topanga Canyon community and beyond. Majesty was lost in the wild - in a heat wave - for 14 days. We weren’t sure he would make it. When we finally got him safe, we immediately took him to the vet. Poor Majesty had an amazing rescue literally from the jaws of death (more on that in a minute) but he’s not out of the woods yet. We got bloodwork done. He’s got very elevated white blood cell count, diarrhea, a nasty cough and thick nasal discharge as well as being close to half his normal weight. He’s on general antibiotics but he still needs a lab analysis from a nasal swab, a fecal exam, possibly a chest x-Ray and more antibiotics. His body condition is about a 3/10.
We got so much help from our community - I don’t think Majesty would be alive without it . But he needs just a little more help for a healthy and full recovery.
A little history: I saw Majesty and knew immediately that this was a Very Good Boy. I brought him home from being neutered at Harbor Shelter on 8/11. He slipped his lead, collar and cone-of-shame and when I tried to call him and approach, he ran!
In the first couple days it looked like we was hanging out in particular area. Mike Noon, the legendary pet tracker working with me, felt we’d get him to safety shortly. But Majesty had other ideas. Time and time again a sighting was reported, we’d get there and he’d give us the slip, covering about 6 miles from Arteique Rd to almost the PCH. After 14 days we were getting desperate. He was so thin and clearly fading fast. On 8/26 I got a sighting report from a Topanga local that Majesty on Topanga Canyon Blvd, in the middle of the construction from the fires. I called Mike and he hauled ass all the way from Orange County. Majesty was motionless halfway down a cliff when he got there.
Mike is a pro. He’s seen some and done some crazy things. It looked like Majesty may have been hit by a car and thrown. How else could he have gotten down there?! Mike didn’t hesitate, he went down the cliff after our skinny, furry friend.
Majesty got up, he was still alive! Mike, as I’ve come to know him, is one of the most selfless and brave people I’ve ever met. He’s devoted his retirement to saving animals, but he could’ve lost his life on this rescue, and Majesty’s too.
Read Mike’s humble account of his heroic rescue here, and of the folks from Caltrans who risked a reeming-out from the supervisor to help.
Humanity wins!
We went straight the the vet. Good news, no broken bones. Bad news, Majesty was in very rough shape from his terrifying ordeal. Thepoor guy was still shaking and so scared, but he was gentle and well-behaved. Didn’t give the vet any trouble. Majesty, as I knew from the moment I laid eyes on him, is a Very Good Boy.
So far we’ve got bloodwork, antibiotics and fluids. But he may need an overnight stay if he doesn’t start recovering. He has a very bad upper respiratory infection and a wracking cough. To dial in the antibiotics for this, we need to send has nasal swap to the lab. The vet recommended a chest x-Ray. We’ll also need a fecal exam and likely more antibiotics. The total right now is $1695.98. If he gets the chest x-Ray and needs overnight IV fluids and further tests.
That puts us at over $2600

Many have gone over and above to help us already. As I said, Majesty wouldn’t be here without half of Topanga coming together to help get him home. But we’re not out of the woods. We’d really appreciate your help. I’ll keep you posted on Majesty’s progress back to health and …. A new name to reflect his resillient and beautiful spirit! (Suggestions welcome!)
Thanks so much to all. Love, Elle and Majesty.
