Maja, just 36, is facing aggressive eye cancer and needs immediate surgery to prevent metastasis—let’s come together to help her get the care she urgently needs.

This year, my cousin Maja Miskovic’s life was turned upside down. At just 36 years old, she started noticing blurry vision in her left eye. She thought it was just time for a stronger glasses prescription. But a simple eye exam quickly turned into a nightmare. She was sent to a specialist at Duke in Durham, where she was diagnosed with ocular melanoma—a rare and aggressive cancer of the eye.

In just a short time, the tumor has grown rapidly. Doctors have determined the safest course of action is to remove her left eye to prevent the cancer from spreading. She will also likely need radiation treatment to ensure every last cancer cell is gone. Her surgery is scheduled for September 8th, and waiting is simply not an option. Any delay increases her risk of the cancer spreading throughout her body.

As if this devastating diagnosis wasn’t enough, Maja has been hit with another blow. The health insurance she thought she had secured in July turned out to be a scam. That means every single medical bill—from MRIs and CT scans to tests, bloodwork, surgery and treatment—must be paid entirely out of pocket until she can find new coverage, which could take over a month to kick in.

Maja is one of the kindest, most loving souls you’ll ever meet. She is a daughter, a sister, a cousin, an aunt and a dear friend to so many. She has always been there to support and lift others up, and now she needs us to lift her. Maja is facing an overwhelming diagnosis and an even greater financial burden at a time when she should be focused solely on healing and survival.
