We’re Maize Mirchi - a South Asian-fusion A Cappella group from the University of Michigan. We perform our unique blend of South Asian and Western music locally around Southeast Michigan and travel around the country for both the ICCA and ASA circuits.
This year, we made history as the first South Asian A Cappella group to win first place at ICCA Quarterfinals four years in a row! At this year’s quarterfinals, our incredible Roman Newhouse won Best Arrangement and our ultra-talented Dona Jazrawy took home Best Choreo for our performance of “The Greatest.” At ICCA Semifinals in Milwaukee, our very own Avni Mangrulkar won Best Soloist. We also took home first place at Mehfil — a premier bid competition hosted by USC as part of the Association of South Asian A Cappella (ASA) circuit — where our wonderful Sahana Raja was awarded Best Non-South Asian Soloist!
We are now gearing up to record our award-winning set - an exciting but expensive undertaking. As a fully self-funded student organization, we rely on the generosity of our supporters to help us cover the costs of travel, weekends of lodging, meals, and recording expenses for 15 members. Whether it’s $50, $100, $200, or any amount you’re able to give, every dollar truly makes a difference. Your support will go directly toward making this dream a reality – helping us preserve this set in an album we can share with all of you and continue representing our community on national stages.
Thank you so much for your love and support. Please consider donating and following our journey on all socials (@maizemirchi). We’re just getting started!
