Maisie Hopkins, 28 years old, a mother to a beautiful baby boy. Fighting stage 3 breast cancer while raising and providing for her beautiful one-year-old son Oakley.
My name is Poppy and I have set this page up to support my best friend Maisie. Maisie is strong and fighting a very tough battle. In June of this year she was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in the breast and lymph nodes. Since then she has been undergoing intense chemotherapy and has years of treatment as well as life changing surgery ahead.
In the blink of an eye, her life has drastically changed. In the process of this she had to leave a life she had built for herself in the UAE behind. Maisie had been on unpaid maternity leave since Oakley was 6 weeks old. Therefore was about to start working again, when her life took a sharp turn. Being the amazing mother she is, she put Oakleys wellbeing and upbringing first, always. Due to being freshly postpartum and then being diagnosed with cancer with the treatment taking a toll of her body, she has been unable to work and currently has no source of income.
Maisie has taken everything in her stride, she is doing everything she can to fight this battle and heal her body. Naturally expenses are piling up, she is fighting for her son’s future. Her strength and determination is inspiring but she needs our support now, more than ever.
All funds raised will go directly to help cover:
•Medical costs and treatment/ healing related expenses.
•Childcare and baby essentials.
•Daily bills/ living costs whilst she is unable to work.
Some of the additional treatments maisie has been funding are incredibly expensive but critical for her healing process. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy has been incredible for Maisie to date and is something she will continue to do throughout her journey. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy gives the patient 99% pure oxygen. Whereas we only breathe approximately 25% pure oxygen in the air due to pollution and other causes. Cancer cannot survive in an oxidised state. This holistic treatment alongside chemotherapy is helping maisie not only by keeping her immune system strong during a time where it is immensely weak but it is also supporting the reduction of inflammation and cancer growth within the body.
Maisie is also in need of acupuncture due to the significant affects her hormonal medication is having on her body and day to day life. Maisie has been put on a hormonal blocker which has shocked her body into an early menopausal state. This has created heightened symptoms causing extreme hot sweats every 10-20 minutes throughout the day and night, impacting her day to day and her sleep is incredibly affected. These all have direct impacts on her healing. Acupuncture is said to be the only method that can assist this.
Childcare: Maisie will soon be facing a life changing surgery with a 4-6 week recovery period whereby she cannot do any lifting or anything significant. She will be having a mastectomy and all of her lymph nodes removed. Maisie has been unable to send Oakley to any form of nursery/ child minder due to her low immune system and high risk of infection so she has been so strong and continued to be the primary carer of Oakley throughout the entirety of her treatment, with the support of family around her. However, all family work and there is going to be a period of time whereby she will require assistance at home which she cannot afford to fund at this time.
Organic produce: a small step for a larger outcome. Maisie has completely transformed her diet from an already healthy, balanced diet to an even cleaner, less processed one. This unfortunately comes with a cost but is so crucial during her treatment.
There are many other expenses that aren’t so obvious, due to weight loss, change of appearance, general improvements of health.
If you are in a position to donate, even a little, it would mean the world. If you are not able to donate, please consider sharing this page.
1 in 8 women are affected by breast cancer. Maisie is doing everything she can to raise awareness and share her story whilst giving back to others in the process. She would never ask anyone to help her and that is why I am here to be that person and share this part of her story. Every bit of help makes a difference and we appreciate your support more than ever.
Let’s rally around Maisie and show her she’s not alone in this fight.
With love and gratitude,
Poppy
