Help Maine Students Attend National History Day

My students have been selected to represent Maine at the 2026 National History Day national contest in Washington, DC. This is a huge academic achievement and an exciting opportunity for them to showcase their hard work and dedication. The event will take place from June 14 to 18 at the University of Maryland, College Park, near Washington, DC. National History Day is a nationally recognized academic enrichment program that promotes the study of history in schools and encourages students to take a creative approach to learning. Participating students develop research papers, exhibits, documentaries, performances, or websites based on a topic they select connected to an annual theme. These entries are then evaluated by history educators. The 2026 theme, “Revolution, Reaction, and Reform in History,” has inspired students to explore many interesting topics related to local, state, national, and world history. In Maine, the History Day program is a partnership of the University of Maine and the Margaret Chase Smith Foundation, supported by a number of other organizations in the state. Hundreds of students, as well as dozens of educators and historical volunteers, participated in National History Day in Maine programs this year. Now, some of these highly qualified students have the chance to participate in the national contest, and we are seeking support to make this possible. The funds raised will help cover travel expenses and lodging for the students to attend the contest. This support will make it possible for them to participate and benefit from this enriching experience. By contributing, you will help these students take part in a wonderful learning opportunity, encouraging their interest in history and putting them amidst the best and brightest of their peers from around the country, all in a setting rich in the nation’s history. Thank you for your interest and support.
