Help these 13 amazing Maine kids (and their teacher) travel to Washtington, DC to compete in the National History Day National Contest!
This year’s National History Day topic was “Frontiers in History” and Greely Middle School students explored topics as varied as the origins of forensic science, the Warsaw Ghetto uprising, and arctic exploration. Six teams competed and ALL have won the chance to compete at the National Contest in DC–a once in a lifetime experience. Help them make Greely and Maine proud!
This opportunity to represent the great State of Maine at the national level is something they are not taking lightly:
“This competition means the world to me - I have spent countless hours working on this project and I hope to have the opportunity to show off my learning and represent Maine at nationals.” -CM
“I'm proud to represent Maine because regardless of how the judging or contest goes, we have worked so hard to get here. I can confidently say that I am putting my best work forward, and am proud to represent our state!” -CL
As the students prepare for the national competition, families are faced with the challenge of paying for the week-long trip to DC. While the school system is generously paying for contest registrations, families are being asked to shoulder the rest of the financial burden–conservative estimates put trip expenses at $1,700 per family.
We’ve heard from a number of families that this cost is more than they can handle. We don’t want any student to miss the chance to compete due to money, so we are asking you, our friends, family, and neighbors, to help us raise $5,100 to ensure that every student can participate.
Help all of our kids make the trip to DC and nationals!
Who is running this fundraiser?
This campaign is being run by the families of the Greely Middle School students representing Maine at the National History Day competition. We come from a wide range of class backgrounds and are banding together to ensure every student can attend. We hope to cover the costs for at least three students and their families.
What will happen with the money?
Money raised through this GoFundMe will be donated to Greely Middle School to be shared as scholarships for families who need financial help making the trip to DC. Any funds remaining will go to support future students who qualify for the national NHD competition.
