Help Mahmoud & Doaa: Battling Cancer & Pregnancy in Gaza

I'm seeking your help for my dear friends in Gaza. Mahmoud and Doaa, along with their four wonderful children, Lama (14), Hala (12), Mohamed (10), and Habiba (3), are enduring unimaginable suffering amidst the ongoing conflict, further complicated by Doaa’s elderly parents, Naeem and Sabtiya. Life in Gaza has become unlivable since October 7th due to continuous bombardments, devastation, and scarce access to essential resources.

Over the past six months, my wife and I have been in close contact with Mahmoud and Doaa, supporting them through the hardships. However, we have reached a point where their situation requires more than what we alone can provide. Doaa, now in her third month of pregnancy, faces increased responsibilities and challenges in caring for her four children amidst the chaos. Meanwhile, Mahmoud's battle with brain cancer has caused him to start losing sight in his left eye, and the lack of medical facilities in Gaza has left him unable to fully care for his family.

Despite these challenges, this resilient family remains full of hope. Mahmoud previously worked as an office administrator and has always sought to provide stability for his family. Doaa, a trained pediatric nurse, completed her studies to help others, showcasing her compassionate spirit. Their children, each with dreams and ambitions, remain optimistic despite their harsh surroundings.

- Lama (14): The eldest sister dreams of becoming a dentist and poet, inspiring her siblings with her dedication and creativity.

- Hala (12): A natural leader and aspiring teacher, Hala has achieved a blue belt in karate, embodying perseverance and strength.

- Mohamed (10): Inspired by his father's battle with brain cancer, Mohamed aspires to become a brain surgeon. His dream is fueled by a deep desire to find cures and provide care for those suffering from similar conditions.

- Habiba (3): The light of the family, Habiba's infectious laughter brightens even the darkest days.

Their home has been severely damaged by recent bombings, leaving them vulnerable and constantly at risk of being hit next. They move between their partially destroyed house and a camp, where they share space with Doaa's sisters and extended family. The current conditions have left them without reliable access to basic necessities like clean water, proper food (especially crucial for Doaa's pregnancy), and medical care. Baby Habiba lacks basic items like diapers, and the family has very limited access to pediatric care. Moreover, all local schools have been destroyed, leaving no future prospects for education in Gaza.

The situation is dire, and we must act swiftly to evacuate the family. Given the current invasion of Rafah, we are exploring all possible routes to safely help them leave Gaza.

This campaign might be our only chance to offer them a new beginning, save the children from further trauma, and welcome a new life into a safer world. Our hearts are with everyone suffering in Gaza, and while our hearts are broken that we can't help them all, we believe that the least we can do now is help Mahmoud and his family find safety and security.

For full transparency and understanding, here’s a breakdown of the estimated costs to evacuate the family:

- Passport fees: €150 per person.

- Emergency Evacuation Costs: Approximately €10,000 per adult and €5,000 per child.

- Initial Settlement Costs in Egypt: A minimum of €5,000 is needed for accommodation, medical care, transportation, and other necessities to help them start a new life.

- Transaction fees: A fee of 2.9% + €0.25 is deducted automatically from each donation, adding a minimum of €3,000 for the GoFundMe fees.
