Mahadi is my cousin. In late 2006 when he was in college, an incident changed his life forever. He was riding the motorcycle with his father and suddenly got hit by a truck. The truck hit the bike from the side, and my uncle and Mahadi fall from the bike. Fortunately, my uncle had minor injuries, but Mahadi’sleft lower limb crushed by the motorcycle. He rushed to the nearby hospital and later to the country’s largest orthopaedic hospital. He had to carry an Ilizarov apparatus for two years, but nothing improved.


In the meantime, he completed his college in a wheelchair and got admission in Computer Science and Engineering Department at Jessore University of Science and Technology. Every doctor he visited gave him the hope that, his leg will be better again and he will have a healthy life. With that hope, Mahadi started living his half-paralyzed life. Mahadi completed his Bachelors and now is a Computer Engineer. He applied for jobs, but never get called back because of his physical conditions. He went back to his village and became a teacher. With the help of some friends, he opened a coaching centre where he teaches the village children and living his life with these limited earnings. He is also an active social worker as he helped so many needy children in my village to buy study materials by collecting funds. Mahadi never loses his hope. With the dream that he will be normal again, he continued to see different physicians. This long process cost all of the parents his asset. But nothing improved. 

A few months ago, my uncle ( Mahadis Father) died from a sudden heart attack. Mahadi lost all of his hope and decided to do the amputation, as there is no indication that his broken limb will recover. This process is quite expensive, and it will cost 4-5 lakh taka (6000$) just for the amputation, and the cost of a prosthetic leg is around 3-4 lakh taka (4000$). His family does not have any money left for this process, so he is seeking everyone’s help.


Being a graduate student, I am helping him with all I have, but this won’t be enough. Mahadi needs your little contribution to have a successful amputation and a prosthetic leg.
